Almost 13,000 boxes of packed polling materials have been delivered to the provinces in time for the 18 September parliamentary elections.

Preparations are on track for the 2010 Wolesi Jirga elections run by Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IEC) with technical and logistical support from the UNDP, in response to the request by the Government. (Photo: Fardin Waezi / UNAMA)

Additional notes:

In the coming days, the Independent Election Commission’s provincial offices will start delivery of said election materials to their districts, utilizing all forms of vehicles, including animals especially to far-flung areas unreachable by motor vehicles. Because of the threat to the security of the materials and to the election workers themselves, the delivery will be accompanied by the Afghan police as well as the military. Thousands of police and military personnel have been mobilized to secure the parliamentary election on September 18.
